AJ Macdonald

EXPERIENCE

With over 30 years of experience in the investment and financial planning field, AJ is the owner/founder and CEO of Macdonald Financial services and directs the planning, management, analysis, research and review of all client accounts.

EDUCATION

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from the University of Kansas, AJ began his financial services career in 1995 at Mercantile Bank in St. Louis.  He then transitioned to Norwest Bank in Denver in the Trust and Investment Management Department. In 2001, AJ branched out on his own and incorporated Macdonald Financial Services trading through LPL Financial in Loveland, Colorado.

COMMUNITY

AJ is active with several local charities. He was chairman of the board of Colorado Youth Outdoors and sat on their board for 17 years.  He was a board member of McKee Hospital for 12 years and currently is a member of Sertoma. He has also been a board member of the Healthier Communities Coalition, NoCo 20/30 and has worked with the Boys and Girls Club of Larimer County

AJ is recognized as one of the top 1% performers based on annual production with LPL Financial, America’s largest independent broker/dealer (as reported in Financial Planning magazine, June 1996-2024, based on total revenues.) In addition, AJ is a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst CDFA® and a Certified Exit Planning Analyst CEPA®.

FAMILY

AJ and his wife Michelle live on Horseshoe Lake in Loveland and have 5 grown children, Morgan, Charlie, James, Heather and Rachel.  In addition, AJ & Michelle enjoy their array of house and farm animals including their dogs, cats, horses, miniature horses, goats, chickens, peacocks, ducks, swans and bees.

FUN

AJ loves sports and enjoys watching football, basketball and hockey.  He is a long time Kansas City Chiefs and KU Basketball fan.  Recreationally, AJ is an avid sportsman and enjoys fishing, big game hunting and pheasant hunting with his two dogs Roxy and KC.  At home AJ & Michelle enjoy boating, gardening and caring for their farm and animals.
